Have joined theo fold, just need help with dual monitor setup
Hi all, after using slackware for many years, i have switched to 64 studio, 32bit version, (debian optimised for audio/video work) as i was spending more time tweaking and configuring than actually making music!
i installed it without a problem, installed the nvidia driver but i am unable to get anything more than 640x480 on my second display, which is not very usefull! Using Slackware i was able to run xorgcfg after installing the Nvidia driver and set my monitors up correctly, but i am unable to find this app. I have also tried altering my xorg config, but to no avail. Any help will be appreciated, as i was able to get a resolution of 1024x768 using slackware with the same hardware My hardware is as follows: Amd Atlon xp2400 Nvidia geforce fx5200 agp with 19" iyyama monitor (working fine at 1600x1200) Nvidia geforce fx5200 pci with 17" Hp d8237 monitor (unable to set above 640x480) both graphics cards have 128mb of ram 1024 mb ram 80gb pata boot drive 36gb 15k scsi hard drive (for recording audio) Any help would be appreciated, i can post my xorg config later, but at the minute im using my iMac ive just installed debian on as well ;) |
When you've installed the nVidia driver you've also installed the nvidia-settings utility. (well, it's part of the driverpackage, so it installed automagiccaly ;)) Run that as root (open a terminal, become root, then issue the nvidia-settings command) to adjust settings. If that fails, check and edit the xorg config file with the appropriate resolutions on the 2nd screen.

Solved
I had already tried running nvidia-settings as both a normal user and as root, but the maximum screen size in the drop down box was 640x480
To solve the problem i used an earlier version of the nvidia driver i had on disk and was able to set my screens up perfectly, so it must be a bug with my hardware setup and the most recent version of the driver |
