I have posted a basic introduction to Grub2 at;
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...56#post4105956
There are several links to more in depth information on Grub2 and specific things about Grub2.
Also one to guide you through getting rid of it and installing grub-legacy. There are a couple pit falls you want to avoid.
The original Grub2 intro was written during the Ubuntu 9.10 testing cycle. Grub2 became the bootloader when the Alpha2 was released. No info came with it. The first couple of weeks were a lot of FUN.
We did, eventually, find Hermans posts on Grub2 (link included) and that was the best and still has great, up to date information.
Drs305 is responsible for pulling together all the things that we came up with on the testing forum that cycle and his own extensive experimentation into 4 or 5 great threads on the UFs and is responsible for the great community information on the Ubuntu Wiki (links included)
I had quite a love affair with grub0.97 and still think it is great. It is not supported anymore.
Grub2 is still working out some bugs but is a much better bootloader, in many ways, than grub-legacy. It has the flexibility to adapt to the new bootable storage media and file systems that seem to pop up more frequently all the time.
If you explore archives of forums from when Grub first came out, you will find it was almost a popular as a turd in a punch bowl. The same is true with Grub2 but I think it is becoming loved much quicker than the original was.
Take a look at the Intro. I hope it gives you some information that is helpful.
