Graphical Boot

Hi I am currently mucking around with debian in the hope that I can make it a bit more graphical. I just finished install mandriva 2007 and the graphical boot is AWESOME!

My questions are...

1. I am running KDE, when debian boots before the 'KDE login screen' it displays the X looking backgroun, So it will turn black and white with that little "X" in the centre before loading KDE. Is there a way to stop this from happening, so as soon as you turn it on the first desktop environment you see is KDE. I think showing X before loading KDE looks a bit tacky.

2. Mandriva allows you to boot by default in a grpahical mode, similar to Windows. Basically rather than showing all the writing... 'verbose mode' how do i get it to display a graphical loading screen. My wish is to hide all the text during boot and make it completly graphical. As sometimes the info it shows you inmportant i would also like to have a feature "Press Key" to load in verbose mode.

Is this extremly hard? I am googling at the moment but am unsure of what to search for. I would love it if someone could point me in the direction of resources or give some information.

Thanks!
