good dial up modem for debian?

ANybody know of a good modem that's cheap, and has support for debian? I need dialup, so I can connect every now and then from my cluster. Thoughts? Also, how do you set up your ppp connection in /etc/interfaces?

Anything that doesn't have Optimized for WindowsXP/ME/2K/98/3.1 on the box should do well.

usually external modems connect to your pc via a serial port, such as usb...

in the modem section of the LQ HCL you can find some modems which are known to work well with linux:
