hi, i'm not sure how to go about doing this, so any ideas/suggestions that people have would be great.

what i want to do is be able to download my email that is on a pop3 server to my local machine. from there i would then like it to be hosted using i believe imap. the reasoning for this is that i have mail on a pop3 server and have both desktop and laptop. i would like to be able to access all my emails anywhere that i go that has an internet connection. i'm not sure about which software i should use.

Also, i was using mozilla thunderbird, and since switching to debian just a few days ago i would like to start using evolution. any suggestions on how i could import my thunderbird mail/contacts/folders into evolution easily?

well this is what i've determined for anyone thats wondering:

use fetchmail to grab all pending mail on pop3 server and download to local machine.
exim then takes mail and sends it out to dbmail, which i understand to be a database enabled imap server.

now i just have to figure out how to setup everything, things aren't looking good so far.
