or of course, you can do it "the easy way".

Download the version of Kanotix that reflects your system/architecture and install that to hard drive.

Yes, it's "polished version of knoppix", but it's based on debian unstable/testing so it's quite up to date. It allows you to use the debian tools to do system stuff.

As it's only 1 cd, and you can then run it as a "live CD" to check it on your system first, before installing that is, it's an easy way of getting a debian system up and running without the hard slog of installing debian manually.

Or, if you read up, you should see that according to lots of articles/reviews, you only really need to download the first two of the debian install CD's (it's so many CD's because it has just about the largest packages availability of any distro).

Install it from there and then install everything else via either apt-get or install synaptic (apt-get install synaptic) and then use that.

regards

John

Is there a reason you want to do the jigdo download instead of a nice iso file ?

The fetinstall iso is enough for a base install and will save you a LOT of time you would waste downloading larger ISO's

Any packages needed outside of the base install will be downloaded over your broadband connection. a complete install shouldn't take more than an hour or so depending on your broadband speed..

Debian Stable (3.1r2)

Debian Etch Beta 3 (testing version.. newer packages not recommended for a production server)

IF you truly want to go the jigdo route.. sorry I can't offer any help as I am unfamiliar with that procedure..
