geting rid of devfs

im on debian woody and one really annoying thing (to me) about it is that it uses devfs. is there any way to disable devfs in debian woody?

one thought was to just recompile the kernel without it, but i have a feeling that many of the programs in debian are optomized for devfs.

does the new beta debian use devfs?

If you don't want to use devfs, just disable it.
I never used it and never had problems on Debian SID
