Gens Emulator using 64bit

Gens SegaMEgaDrive/Genesis Emulator.
I've been hunting around and I found a *.deb package for it and installed it.
Now the 'special' thing is, I'm running a 64bit Debian. The package is marked as 386 only.
Using
Code:
dpkg -i --force-architecture
I could still install the package and to my surprise the program actually started and does not crash.
BUT, all the fonts (it uses a gtk front end for configuration/load/save-menus etc.) are just displayed as squares similar to these [].
Now running a 32bit chroot this does not occur and I can use the program normally.

any ideas why its not finding its fonts? Because other than that it works flawlessly(as far as I've tested it)

Are there differences between 64bit debian and 32bit debian to where the fonts are 'kept'?
