gedit annoying new feature

The version of Gedit (2.14.4-8) that comes with Debian Etch stable has an annoying new "feature" by which it automatically readjusts the screen so that the line being edited is placed in the middle.

I find this annoying and distracting.

Can anyone tell how I can neutralize this? It's not in the 'preferences' and I don't want to mess it up by trial and errors.

Thank you for your help.

That's odd - on my box, also Debian Etch, gedit doesn't do anything of the kind. Perhaps try looking through settings using gconf-editor?

Also, you could try it on a new user, and see if the problem pops up again.

Thank you Mike W for your answer.
I found I mislead people, it's not when editing that it does what I explained but when using the "find" feature.
It does the same when I change user.
