GDM Fails to start on boot

I don't know what happened, but lately my desktop hasn't been bringing up GDM automatically at boot time. It always used to. I upgrade it frequently - which may have caused this.

Starting GDM manually brings it up fine, but running the script in /etc/init.d just brings the message "Starting up GDM display manager: gdm" (or something to that effect - not on my desktop right now, sorry) and then quits. My laptop works fine though, so I'm not sure updates are what caused it.

Both the laptop and desktop are running Debian Lenny, with all recent updates, and with the nVidia drivers installed.

Any ideas? Reinstalling the "gdm" package didn't change anything. Any help is welcome - manually starting GDM each time is annoying.

You can try dpkg-reconfigure gdm.

Did you install splashy? If so, remove it and reinstall GDM.

Ah yes thank you, indeed I think I did try to install Splashy. I'll give that a shot, and if that doesn't work I'll try the other suggestion.
