GAIM 2.0 beta 1 installation issues

I'm a noob to Linux.

Please guide me through on installing GAIM beta 1 on my Kanotix Linux distro (Debian). I tried unpacking it and running "./configure" then "make install", but obviously that's wrong. Please help me in a step by step way.

Thx for any help.

try './configure','make','make install'
