ok, so I had this problem too on one system installed with the debian-installer beta 4, but not with a system using debian-installer RC1

My question is that somebody posted on a mailing list last week to;

dpkg -i --force-overwrite

so I did that the first time around, then today I did it again on the same packages.

I'm still new to debian and want to know if I maybe did something I shouldn't have? The system seems to be working fine from what I can tell. But am I going to have to force-overwrite on this package forever now? Seems like forcing anything is kind of risky coming from the rpm world where I never forced packages. I just figured this guy from my LUG knew what he was doing since he's used debian for some time now.

Hey, what do they know? that shows you the dependability of LQ.

"but i have always enjoy implementing your suggestions and was just being too overly cautious...thanks always for your knowledgeable input.... ."

I don't know about 'knowledgeable imput', i read something, try it, then share it with anybody who wants to pay attention, i'm still a newbie, every day i get into more trouble.

"btw....what seem to have been the problem with the upgrades...???"

I can only speculate, Sarge is coming out soon to be 'stable' they are moving things fast, some get left behind, they fix them, back to normal, once they get to the 'stable' situation, this will not be hapenning as often, if ever.

They got like ten platforms, they have to get a new 'testing' in, and keep sid going.

Gah! And after all that work!

macondo's right. The bug report is closed, like so:
Quote:
gcc-3.3 sarge installation failures fixed in gcc-3.3_3.3.4-6sarge1.2,
which reached testing tonight [2004-08-29].

Closing the first report (and 17 duplicate reports ...)
