fontconfig error

I am in trouble..

After I update etch , I got an error message

fontconfig -2.4.2-1.2

Fontconfig error: Cannot load config file "/etc/fonts/conf.d/30-debconf-yes-bitmaps.conf"
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file

Steps which I have tried are :

dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config

useless

Before upgrade , I had configured the file /etc/fonts/fonts.conf

which you know is supposed to be defaulted anyway when updated or upgraded

But this file didn`t be changed after update
Now I got ugly fonts
All remain screwed

Thanks...

Is that file on your system? If not, make sure you don't have a broken symlink to it in /etc/fonts/conf.avail. It it is present then verifiy it is not corrupted. The file (originating from ~/conf.avail) should appear similar to:

Code:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<!-- conf.d/yes-bitmaps.conf -->
<fontconfig>
<!-- Accept bitmap fonts -->
 <selectfont>
  <acceptfont>
  <pattern>
    <patelt name="scalable"><bool>false</bool></patelt>
  </pattern>
  </acceptfont>
 </selectfont>
</fontconfig>

Delete /etc/fonts/conf.d/30-debconf-yes-bitmaps.conf if you have it

An then try
Code:

dpkg -i --force-confmiss /var/cache/apt/archives/fontconfig-configXXXX.deb
I have the same file as Xian.

Thank you.. sorry for late
Finally I undstand the relation of between conf.avil and conf.d.
So I think I could manage the same type

But another error pops up

Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration.
Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>/var/cache/fontconfig</cachedir>
Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>~/.fontconfig</cachedir>

So I add "<cachedir>/var/cache/fontconfig</cachedir>" to /etc/fonts/local.conf and all errors go away

The conclusion I grasp is that font configuration files like any other package are not rewritten by a normal update and don`t be reinstalled at least in minor cases

Happy world....

I also came to the same conclusion :)
Configuration files included in package are not overwritten in debian
And in my quest, also found this :
Code:

dpkg -s fontconfig-config
which for example lists the configuration files of fontconfig-config
