floppy only reads first disk, if new disk is inserted data from first disk is shown.

Hello to all.
I have a debian build 2.4 with kde 3.3.
When I open the Konkeror file manager and click on my floppy drive it reads the floppy disk. Then I insert a different floppy disk and try to read it, but the data for the first floppy disk stays on the screen. I've tried closing the app and coming back to it but it still shows the data from the first floppy disk. It even shows this data when no floppy disk is present in the drive. The only "work around" is to shut the machine down and restart. In DOS I can change floppies and it reads the new floppies correctly. So I know its not a hardware issue.

I appreciate any brain cells burned helping to solve this issue. Thanks.

Did you unmount the floppy before swapping it?

It does not appear that lakosked is unmounting the floppy.

When you click on the floppy disk the filesystem is mounted i.e. attached to the file tree. You then must unmount the floppy prior to removing it from the drive. Right click on the icon and select unmount. The filesystem is cached so that is why you see the same data even though it is a different disk. Writing data to the 2nd floppy might corrupt its filesystem. You must close all applications accessing the filesystem before you can unmount it.

MS3FGX, michaelk, I had no idea that unmounting the floppy was the issue. I take it this is normal for linux boxes, or is there some way for a floppy to automatically unmount itself when a user tries to read a new floppy.

Either way it is just a learning curve and something I will get used to.
