firefox, pango problem after apt-get upgrade

After apt-get update/upgrade, firefox will not run (see msgs below). It mentioned 'pango', which I have never heard of. Then I tried to go into synaptic to see about pango, and all the characters are little squares.

rip@blueridge:~$ cat /etc/debian_version
testing/unstable

rip@blueridge:~$ firefox

(Gecko:8791): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically
loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly.
This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
'/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You should create this file by running pango-querymodules.
Segmentation fault
rip@blueridge:~$

Any ideas while I google around (on epiphany!) ?

Have you tried running pango-querymodules?

Yes. It isn't there.

root:# pango-querymodules
-su: pango-querymodules: command not found

I've not been keeping up with things lately. Did Debian update things, and should I have modified sources.list?

root:# cat /etc/apt/sources.list
# deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main
# 7-21-06added:
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
# 7-21-06 then commented out this:
###deb ftp://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/debian/ testing main

deb-src ftp://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/debian/ testing main

deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main

i am running Etch and have no problems with it....I did have problems with Sarge but only because the later releases of Firefox are in Etch and Sid but not in Sarge...

I'm also running etch, and I did a dist-upgrade yesterday that cleared up some odd problems by forcing several upgrades that were held back.

If you want to try this, just do

Code:
# apt-get dist-upgrade
This forced firefox to upgrade from 1.07 to 1.5 ... all dependencies were accounted for and everything went well for me.

Much appreciated !

I'm glad it worked out.

I should mention that you should use dist-upgrade sparingly, only when things held back seem to be breaking things you need, because packages important to you can be removed due to dependency problems. (Well, this last happened to me when potato was in testing, but maybe it can still happen ...)

So I wouldn't do it every day
