Firefox 3 for Debian Etch
Hello, as mentioned in another post "browser issues".. I am experiencing problems logging onto my facebook account. I get "server not found" error...
Iceweasel works on every other site. Additionally, I can logon to facebook using my windows based firefox 3. If anyone can help trouble shoot the Iceweasel I would be grateful. Otherwise I need help installing a Deb version of firefox 3. I read on the Ubuntu site I should add a repository to my sources.list deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main I'm not sure which one corresponds correctly to Debian Etch, so should I replace dapper with edgy, feisty, or gutsy.? Then I would run apt-get install firefox, right? |
I forgot to mention, I downloaded the bz2 file from firefox.com
********************************************************************************************** I extracted the file. Then tried to run ./firefox from the root of that directory. I got the following message: Sorry, this application requires a version of the GTK+ library that is not installed on your computer. You have GTK+ 2.8. This application requires GTK+ 2.10 or newer. Please upgrade your GTK+ library if you wish to use this application. ********************************************************************************************* I then ran apt-get install GTK+ but it could not find it |
None of those correspond to Debian Etch; Ubuntu is not Debian. GTK+ is in package (I think) libgtk2.0-0. But Etch doesn't have 2.10+. You won't get FF 3.0 on Etch without some pain and hacking.
