Found the answer.

This is because I am using 64bit and the Firefox download from Mozilla is a 32bit app.

Tried downloading the 64bit pre-alpha Firefox from Mozilla and it works.

what package manager? Since "Firefox" isn't in Debian, instead it is called Iceweasel.

Package iceweasel
* etch (oldstable) (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
2.0.0.19-0etch1: alpha amd64 arm hppa i386 ia64 mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
* etch-m68k (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
2.0.0.3-1: m68k
* lenny (stable) (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
3.0.6-3 [security]: alpha amd64 arm armel hppa i386 ia64 mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
* lenny-backports (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
3.5.6-1~bpo50+1 [backports]: amd64 powerpc
* squeeze (testing) (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
3.5.6-1: amd64 armel hppa i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
* sid (unstable) (web): lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
3.5.6-1: alpha amd64 armel hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
2.0.0.12-1 [debports]: m68k

Which is actually the entire point of this thread. Using Firefox instead of Iceweasel.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6

BTW pretty much the same steps can be followed if you wish to use Thunderbird 3.0 rather than Icedove.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20100111 Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.1 ThunderBrowse/3.2.8.1

Wasn't Iceweasel the answer to Firefox's artwork not being 100% free? So why doesn't someone maintain a Firefox package and include it in the non-free section??

I am running debian lenny 64-bits and firefox 3.6 reports an error about shared library libgtk-x11. Do I need a firefox 64 bits version? or it's something else?

That doesn't seem to work for me. I also get the dreaded: ".../libclearlooks.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64". I'm going to give the 3.7 a try.
