Because of the security threat in 0.9.3 of Firefox, is there an Deb update package for firefox (did apt-cache search mozilla-firefox with 0.9.3-5 shown) for version 1.0 ?? or just use the "firefox-installer" for the version 1.0 instead.?
Also, is it worth removing "mozilla", as I only use firefox for browsing and Kmail for email, without causing havoc to the debian system.?
(Running Debian sarge 'testing' on AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and thoroughly enjoying it !!!)
There is no 1.0 package yet. For the time being, I moved the /usr/bin/firefox script out of the way (renamed it to firefox_old), installed the official package to /usr/local/mozilla.org/firefox and then created a /usr/bin/firefox symlink pointing to /usr/local/mozilla.org/firefox/firefox.
You can install Firefox 1.0 by having a mixed system.
Just add a source pointing at "unstable" in your sources list and then do: apt-get -t unstable install mozilla-firefox.
This will give you Firefox available for sid (which is version 1.0).
For more info google "apt howto".
Incidentally, I used the firefox installer and as suggested moved the older version to different dir. installing firefox 1.0 in the same place to restore links.. many thanks..
