File size limit in Samba?

Hi all. I was trying to access a file that was upwards of eight gigs on a Windows machine from my Debian laptop, and it reported a size of 3.8g. I can't figure that out! There was another file that is around 7g, and it was reported as 2.7 (or something like that). I tried to copy one of these files, and once it got to the end of the 3.8gb, it just died off and didn't copy anything at all.

What causes this?

file size greater than 2G could have all kinds of problems (2G = 2^31 -1 is the max size with 32 bit)

Odd, I do it in reverse with no problems, dvds(4,7 and up to 9 gigs) are on the debian(testing/unstable) file server running the most current version of samba and my windows xp pro desktop and xbox can access the full files and copy them if I so desire.

Same here. It was only an issue when accessing files using Linux as the client. Windows clients saw files on Linux servers fine.

However, problem now solved! I simply updated the libsmbclient package. Now it is showing the correct sizes.
