You could try "find ~/.kde/ -not -user "yourusername" or "find ~/.kde/ -user root". I wonder if you kdesu'd to root and had a setting saved with root ownership.

Permissions are all ok in /home. I am not sure how an application gets set to be the default of something or where the conf files are but there is alot of stuff like that in /usr/share/mimelnk/ and it is all root. hmm
