/etc/init.d/mysql restart problem

Hi All

I am a new user on Debian, Mysql package is installed . But the service is not starting

When I use
/etc/init.d/mysql start
It says that no such file.

I am not at all able to connect to mysql. I tried mysqladmin, mysqlaccess, mysql as a different user. Nothing is working

Please HELP...

Try looking under /etc/init.d and see if the mysql script is there. Also, how did you install MySQL - from the deb packages or from source? If from the debian packages, try "dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server".

Hi

I have seen /etc/init.d/, but no mysql is there. I have installed mysql with synaptic.

Please help me

Are you sure it was mysql-server that you installed? Again, try "dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server" to re-configre the MySQL server, assuming it's installed, otherwise "apt-get install mysql-server". Sounds like it may have only installed the common files + mysql client.
