DVD ISO installation

Hello,

I recently purchased a (2) DVD set of stable release 3.1r0a -'Sarge1'. I know I could have downloaded, but I don't have a dvd burner. And a part of me felt obligated to support the cause in some form.

Anyway, When I run the install and reboot after initial load, you have the option to install pre-built packages or custom select. I chose the custom, which leaves me a very minimal install.

During the initial install I scanned both disks, which I beleive is done to setup up apt correctly.

However, when I go to install "x-windo-system"
#apt-get install x-window-system

The darn pc oges out to the net, not the dvd...bypassing the whole point of buying the frigg'n disks in the first place

Please help me understand what I'm missing.

Basically I bought the disks to have almost all of the software on site, so as to not burden our office network connection.

TIA.

Check you /etc/apt/sources.list make sure that the cd is not commented out with the Hash # sign, if it is remove the hash and try again.

Also you could comment out all the lines except the cd, this should ensure installation from the cd only.

My sources.list file says
cat /etc/apt/sources.list

Code:
#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r0a _Sarge_-Official i386 Binary-2 (20050607)]/ unstable contrib main
deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r0a _Sarge_-Official i386 Binary-1 (20050607)]/ unstable contrib main

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib

Thanks for the responses

Just installed wmaker (apt-get install wmaker) without modifying anything in the sources.list file.

The install asked for cd-1, so I guess it's working properly.

Thanks again

There was a security update to x-window-system. That's why apt-get tried to grab it from the web. Since there was no update to wmaker, it grabbed it from the DVD.
