Drivers won't install from CD

Trying to install drivers for Samsung all-in-one printer/scanner to run under Kanotix 2005-04.
Insert CD, icon appears on desktop. Mount CD, am then able to view file contents of CD, but the executables will not run.
If I log in as root, no icon appears on desktop when CD inserted, but am able to view CD files using a file manager. Still not able to execute file - icon "flashes" momentarily, and nothing happens when clicked on. It should autorun!
File permissions show CD belongs to root, with all permissions enabled.
Suggestions, please? I've wasted 2 days trying to get this installed......aaaaaah, Windoze!

Are you trying to install window drivers with an exe? If so that won't work.

No,<laughing> I'm not that dumb! Driver CD that came with printer has Linux drivers (Samsung claims Linux compatability, but declines to support Linux), and a google search reveals others who have had problems trying to get this all-in-one printer to work under Kanotix.
However, the main problem is Kanotix - it will not automount nor autorun CD's. Reports of others encountering this problem in the past, yet no solution.
Other Kanotix problems too - Kaffeine player returns library error, and Kanotix apps get slower and slower to load the longer it's run - something seems to be eating memory (I have 512 Mb).
Also complains about Internet connection setup (DSL).
After wasting 2 days of my life trying to troubleshoot the damn thing, I deleted it and installed Xandros 3. So far, no probs - autoloads and autoruns CD's. Internet setup detected automatically.
Too bad - Kanotix had excellent install and hardware detection, and nice desktop. BUT, I like to actually use my computer, rather than spending all my spare time troubleshooting it!
Unfortunately, so many "hobbyist" versions of Linux are authored by the same personna that write viruses - they get their jollies imagining the time you waste trying to overcome their work.

Thanks - been there, soem relevant suggestions, but too much hassle! Maybe I'll just hook up the Laserjet III again, and watch the lights dim when it powers up.

Linux isn't like windows it takes some work to get everything the way you want it. If you don't feel like hassling with it maybe you should stay with windows.

Kanotix can hardly be called a hobbyist version.

Kano is well repected in the Linux community. Did you try looking through the Kanotix wiki or manual? I have ran it for almost two years with few problems.

If you plan on learning how to use the power of Linux it is a good idea to check what hardware works before buying.

Good luck using Xandros. I tried it but didnt like the feel of it and didn't want to have to pay for the Xandros Network to install apps.
