Angry dpkg not working nor apt-get

Greetings: any help is highly appreciated!

while I was trying to install a package I got the error:

dpkg: syntax error: unknown user `ecartis' in statusoverride file
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

if I use dpkg: I get:
dpkg: syntax error: unknown user `ecartis' in statusoverride file

and then I get: Try 'apt-get -f install'

if I do that I got the same message:
dpkg: syntax error: unknown user `ecartis' in statusoverride file
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

does any body have a clue about what is the problem. Thanks

p.s: I got the same message for any package I try to install.

I found something about a override file in debian's website: it should be /usr/local/override. I don't have the file, but maybe you have. If you have such a file, try to move it to your personal directory (so dpkg won't find it anymore), maybe that solves the problem. If that only causes more trouble, you can always place it back.

I don't know much about the override file, but there's something about it in the manpage of 'dpkg-scanpackages'.

I hope this will help you!

are you doing this as 'ecartis' (user) or as root?

what does google say about 'E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)'?
