domain name registration and DHCP question

I have an apache web server set up, and would like to register a domain name for my web page. Can this work with DHCP. I asked my ISP if I can get a static IP, and they said that I can only get a "sticky" IP which could change. How can the DNS servers know what IP to point to when someone goes to my site if my IP is always changing?

you can go to 1and1.com registere a domain and you get full dns management and web forwarding.
combine that with an account with dyndns.org
install the dyndns.org client on you server/router
and off you go.
example
at 1and1.com you register linuxadict.com
at dyndns.org you get linuxadict.dyndns.org
and you set the webforwarding for
www.linuxadict.com to point to linuxadict.dyndns.org :-)
or, you leave out the 1and1.com registration and leave it at linuxadict.dyndns.org
sorted :-)

hosting cheap

Yea, thats what I would do. Your looking for a dynamic dns provider. a basic google on this term should give some good solutions, Dynamic DNS being the most popular probably.

so register a domain with yahoo domains for example, then just create your entry in DNS pointing to the Dynamic DNS hostname.

basically the same thing the above guy said, this is a great first step before going and getting a colocation or dedicated server.

good luck
