dist-upgrade giving weird feedback on Debian DVDs
Hello. I use Squeeze. I just recently upgraded from Lenny. My
sources.list is a combination of Debian DVDs and some http repos (for multimedia, non-free, and security updates). I rely largely on DVDs because I use dial-up. When I tried to run apt-get dist-upgrade for the multimedia packages on my system, it told me to insert Debian DVD disc #1, and from that attempted to install the following programs: librtmp0 libdirac-decoder0 libggiwmh0 libggiwmh0-target-x libvdpau1 twolame. But, it then told me: Code:
Err cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.0 _Squeeze_ - Official i386 DVDMark |
One idea is that you did not add the new DVDs to your sources.list. With synaptic or with "apt-cdrom add" and the DVD in the drive.

You should also check your DVD discs to ensure they're not scratched or damaged in any way.

I just bought them brand new recently, and used them to upgrade to Squeeze (though that was a rocky ride, but it is now Squeeze). They are in my sources.list, added via "apt-cdrom add" (I've had some issues with this after the Squeeze upgrade though, one of which I describe here).
Recently, "apt-get install" does work if it's only one package to be installed, but it seems to give the above noted errors when there is more than one package to install. If anyone knows what could be causing this, and could give me any pointers, I would appreciate it. |
This was one of many issues I had with the upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze*. I finally did complete the upgrade over the internet using my dial-up connection, since the final "apt-get dist-upgrade" just didn't work right with the Debian DVDs. This particular issue was due to the release notes recommending the mount point of /cdrom within /etc/fstab (which just screwed things up). Anyway, I finally did figure out this (and various other issues), and the system sort of works now. So, this thread is "solved".
This was the worst upgrade of Debian ever, though, and I have been using it since Sarge. __ *I keep wanting to call it "Sketch", as in the toy Etch-a-Sketch, given that the Debian names are from the Toy Story movies. Which toy was "Squeeze"? |
