Debian with kde and other specifications
 

Hi I am currently using ubuntu 11.10 on lenovo laptop spec
core 2 duo 2.2 Ghz
2GB ram ddr3, 320 hdd.

I wanted to change from ubuntu to any other nice linux distribution. I wanted to know about DEBIAN that if it is better with KDE? I want kde as it has better look and graphics.
Is it as nice as ubuntu in operating as well as in software and community support?
Is it more different than ubuntu in operating?
Please help with as more information as possible about debian. Those who used it can help me more.

Go for latest Debian squeeze.
Start from minimal install, add kde and others
This will be more stable than latest Kubuntu
Alternatively use Kubuntu LTS.
For Libre kernel there are other distros

You can try KDE in your current Ubuntu setup (without reinstalling). Just install the package kubuntu-desktop from Software Center, then KDE will appear as an option on your login screen.

Ubuntu is based on Debian so the experiences are very similar. Debian uses slightly older software (compare to Ubuntu 10.04) so it is generally a more stable experience.

Keep in mind that KDE in Squeeze/Stable is older.

If you want newer KDE4 you would need to run Debian Testing or Unstable/sid. And even then you won't get the current KDE 4.8.

So there is no difference in ubuntu and debian?
For better kde I should go for ubuntu? But I want a stable version. I know there is LTS available but frequent upgrading in every six months made me pain now.
If debian use older software then is it not better to use it?

Debian is great; give it a try! :)

Shiny new software is not always the best. Debian stable is just that stable.
