LOL.......................Other than changing the mobo, next time you get a laptop make sure it isn't one of those "Designed for Windows" machines...........

I don't know what else to tell you here.......................If anyone else has a suggestion, please step in......

And yeah, apt-get is a great tool........I finally got the first dvd image downloaded (out of 2) for the Debian Sarge, and ready to burn.......The second dvd image still has over 900 files to go..........The only downside to getting these images is having to use jigdo, and jigdo is a very slow process......

I could've gotten the full, ready-to-use CD images for the Sarge release, but there are 14 images total.......And only 2 DVD images, but the only way to get those is through jigdo downloads.........

ok thanks for your help
i rather download netinstall cd and install using HTTP source
reason: you will need to run jigdo everyweek to get the latest packages

N/P.....

As for running jigdo everyweek, not really...........Once I have this weekly snapshot done, all I'd need to do is run 'apt-get dist-upgrade' to update the sarge packages I have installed........

On the DV1000 series with Debian, to correct the hang on boot do the following.

1.> install and reboot.
2.> when your boot loader comes up, change the boot option to have init=/bin/sh
3.> remount your root partition "rw", remount -o rw,remount /dev/hda1
4.> Remove discover1 and hotplug, dpkg -P discover1 and dpkg -P hotplug
5.> umount root partition and reboot (reset button needed).

The system will now boot. Setup apt and install discover and hotplug. Notice I did not say discover1, leaving the 1 off will cause apt to install discover version 2.

The cause of this hassel is that the drivers loaded by discover1 for the dv1000 series are not in the kernel, but the drivers for discover version 2 are.
