Hello,

my debian squeeze has been unplugged by mistake and since this action if I boot it, plugging a usb keyboard and a vga screen I have no prompt to login. If I connect to this server using a ssh connection, I have a prompt and I can log in it with my root user.

I have searched on the internet and I have not found any solution. I have compared my /etc/inittab with an another /etc/inittab from another server and there is no difference.

I am lost, could you give me a clue to keep searching?

What happens if you boot in recovery mode?

I suspect sync/res not fully suported by monitor. It happened on a old Samsung TFT i had. Pressing autosync on the monitor shows full image.

It is good to hear that recoverry does boot.

You say you can log in. As your normal user? To the desktop?

When you boot recovery the first prompt you get will give you a root prompt. If you hit Ctrl + d at that point it will take you to a tty login where you can give your user name and password.

After doing that you should be able to type;
and get to the desktop.

If this works then your problem is with your display manager. Reinstalling it may be what you need to do. This could be done easily after you get to the desktop or from the root prompt in recovery mode.
