Debian sarge release possibly in September

trying not to promise anything we can't deliver." --Steve Langasek

That would be cool! So far, Sarge has been rock solid for me. :)

Howto switch from testing to stable?

If testing becomes stable, is there a point where I can switch the refs in sources.list from "testing" to "stable" so that I can keep using sarge?

yeah, whenever the release date roles around, just open up sources.lst and change references from testing to stable.

Will Sid still be sid and will it always be SID?

zero79 08-06-2004 08:16 PM

sid is, has been, and will always be sid. sid is the evil kid that tortures toys...much like unstable tortures its users.

Switching from testing to stable

The simplest thing would be to reference 'sarge' not 'testting' in your sources list. It doesn't change what packages you search for.

'stable' and 'testing' are simlinks to the 'sarge' and 'woody' directorys. Take a peek for yourself: ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/

update:
Debian Installer RC1 was just released: http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
I hope Debian switches to x.org as soon as Sarge is released.

Sid is the evil kid in the first movie. (The one that destroys toys) (No, I am not a Toy Story freak)

zero79 08-11-2004 10:39 PM

looking at imdb.com, it looks like the only main character left from toy story is Andy (the kid that owns the toys).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114709/

otherwise the developers may get a little crazy and chose Jesse or Wheezy (or Barbie, but they were evil - kinda, so that probably wouldn't work) from toy story 2.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120363/

someone may need to force Disney to release a toy story 3 just so Debian can continue to create new testing distributions. :jawa:
