You can try using xf86config to configure it. Great step-by-step instructions can be found here: http://www.bitbenderforums.com/vb22/...?postid=313121 Note: the instructions are for Slackware, but the same utility is found in Debian.

Still no luck

I have reinstalled debian ppc using the unstable tree with a more up to date version of xfree 4.3 and i have followed the advise here and i get this error now:

Skipping "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libspeedo.a:libspencode.o" No symbols found
(EE) R128(0): Cannot read V_BIOS (5)

*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
*** be the reason for the server aborting

my graphics device section in XF86Config-4 looks like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Standard VGA"
VendorName "Unknown"
BoardName "Unknown"
Driver "vga"

Section "Device"
Identifier "ati rage 128"
Driver "ati"
Option "UseFBDev" "true"

PLEASE HELP!!!

Did you try this:
Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Rage 128 PR"
Driver "r128"
BusID "PCI:0:16:0"
ChipID 0x5046
EndSection
