debian package


i want to know how i go about packaging my downloades gtk themes into a .deb archive also i have some perl scripts and other premade progs that just need to be put into the correct dir structure i just want to package rather than untarring all the time.

ok that tells me how to make it with a src archive but i just need the .deb to put the files in ~/.gtk it doesnt say that just how to work with a src

AFAIK you can't make a .deb without creating the source package with accompanying spec file that is then used to make the binary package. I'm just not familiar with any other method, but perhaps another will offer a better solution.

i really like that idea since i also made some bash scripts and i made an install script for them but it would be fun if i made a .deb for them

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking but Alien will convert between several popular package types.

yes i read it too , but be Very careful as i made a .deb file and installed it and it ruined apt-get now

the problem i have is with the prerm and postinst scripts

so if you make a debian package and it worked fine , please post these scripts here
