Debian Lenny ugly fonts
 

i am using Debian Lenny and it has really ugly fonts. both in Iceweasel and in Windowmaker.

any solution ?

Install graphics card drivers. Or are you saying they are "boring".

Iceweasel is Firefox, about a third of the way down the page link below is a section called "Font & Colors".

do you really think i did not do that ?

i am not a newbie and hence i know what is the name of the driver of the graphics card i have and i have configured X with that driver.

on BLAG(a Fedora based distro which uses Free Softwares only), there is no problem like that.

on Arch, i solved the problem after installing "ttf-msfonts" (non-free) and on CRUX, i do not install those "ms-ttf" fonts because i do not have problem there.

do not know what is the issue with Debian.

{NOTE:I do not like non-free content on my system, hence i do not install "ttf-msfonts" on my system anymore . i do not even use, Flash, Java and mp3. i use Vorbis and Theroa"}

i knew this from last 1.5 years, since my 1st stint with Mozilla/Firefox. i always change this after installation :-)

you got rid of it because it was easy to work with?

Redhat made a free replacement for those ms fonts:

I didn't find the Redhat fonts to be superior to the free combination of DejaVu and LinuxLibertine. Maybe once they have complete hinting and anti-alias components. The only MS Font I really use is Tahoma, and it doesn't come with msttcorefonts anyway.

Well, it's not just the looks. They're designed to work exactly the same as as the ones from MS.
Being a very crappy web developer, I like that idea (It would make things a lot easier).
I agree they're not really perfect (yet) though (but it's a start).

It is ok to use Java now. It is open source.

it does not look like GPL. look at the RESTRICTIONS section, it does not even come close to BSD/MIT or any OSI approved license.
