Debian / Kali v1 - wired Ethernet stuck "requesting" after laptop sleep

Hello all,

Very often times, my wired ethernet is stuck at "requesting a wired network address for ifupdown (eth0)" after coming back from sleep on my laptop.

Machine is Acer Aspire One. The ethernet driver is:
> ethtool -i eth0
driver: r8169
version: 2.3LK-NAPI
firmware-version: rtl_nic/rtl8105e-1.fw
> apt-get install firmware-realtek
firmware-realtek is already the newest version.

The wireless comes up fine, it seems the system gives priority to the wireless lan. Wireless driver is intel Centrino Wireless N-100 I believe.

Any other info you guys need?

Thanks in advance.

Kali version 1 is old and out of date
DO NOT USE

the current rolling release is 2016.1
and this is AFTER the version 2 series

as for network issues
step #1
SEE THE KALI WEBSITE ON TROUBLESHOOTING NETWORK ISSUES
http://docs.kali.org/installation/tr...-driver-issues

Also, Kali is NOT Debian. There are dozens (at least) of distros "based on Debian", but they are not Debian.

Kali is not a mainstream distro, it's only for specific uses. If you're not doing penetration testing, it's not of much use. As for where to post, maybe in any of the Linux areas, maybe hardware, or whatever. I've been running Debian for many years, but I can't help you at all with Kali.

Not sure if this applies to Kali, but when my Debian system fails to reestablish networking, the following (systemd) command will activate it again:
Code:
# systemctl restart 'NetworkManager.service'
