Debian Installation Problem

Hey guys, I'm having a problem I was hoping to get some help with. When trying to install Debian on to my PIII, I am running into a weird problem. Debian isn't recognizing my usb keyboard. Even when I have a usb -> ps2 converter on it, it doesn't work. The reason why I think this is a Debian issue is because when it says 'hit f2 to enter setup', I hit it and it responds. Thanks for your help.

What version of Debian are you trying to install, ie What installation CD are you using? Sarge, Etch, Lenny?

Just a note: I think you could get the message of your Website across in less than 12 lines. Sure am glad there's not a code for "blinking."

Is this a completely fresh install, or are you trying to upgrade an existing system?

Have peek in your bios settings. Look for USB Legacy support or something similar, and try turning it on. Then try the keyboard without the converter.

If that doesn't work then you could "borrow" a keyboard for the duration of the install, and sort out the problem afterwards. If I had to guess I'd say that the installer is using the wrong protocol. I've no idea how to fix that during setup, but can be changed later on a running system.

If it was a bios problem though wouldn't it not work at all?

Nope, not entirely true, could be picking a bad character set and not interpreting the keys properly.
Would definitely try the bios change.
Also borrowing the keyboard is a big help.
When i bought my new mobo, the debian install disc didnt support my usb keyboard (and ignored bios my settings!) at all. So i installed using a ps2 keyboard, and then upgraded my kernel, fixed the problem straight away.

DJ

PS Wouldnt hurt to possibly look to see if there is a bios upgrade available as well, i have had to do that a few times too.

Thats what I ended up doing. I now, am the proud owner of a
900mhz, 512mb ram, 60gb hdd lamp server... (Don't laugh... It works ^^) I do have a few other questions, but instead of getting this tread off-topic, I will post them as new threads. Thank you everyone.
