Debian install - Unable to mount root fs

Hello all,

I would like to install Debian Jessie on my i386
When I boot from the installiso I see the menu and pick 'install'. The bios beeps once immediatly and I get the following output:

Quote:
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
I 've tried 3 cd's already... this computer always ran Debian before..what can I do to get past this error so I can install from cd again?
Thanks for any help/ideas

No answers, but I do have some questions which might point towards the cause of the problem:

Did you check the md5 sum of the *.iso when you downloaded it?

Are all the blank CD's from the same batch? It sometimes happens that one gets defective CD blanks. When that's happened to me, it's not been uncommon to encounter several in the same pack.

Have you tested the CD in another computer to see whether it will boot there?

Have you tried burning at a slower speed?

Does the machine still boot whatever OS is installed to it?

Have you tried booting a Live CD of something else, preferably something not related to Debian? Perhaps the issue is with the machine and not with the boot disc.

I, also, suspect a bad download.
