I have the same wifi adaptor. If I'm reading it right, according to this page:

http://www.intel.com/support/wireles.../CS-034398.htm

the latest firmware for the Intel AC 7260 wifi adaptor only works with kernel 3.10 and 3.13. If your system is like mine (just installed Debian 7.5), you are using 3.2.

For me, the results of running lspci shows nothing regarding wifi.

I'm hoping when I get 3.13 and the latest Intel firmware installed (I'm struggling: "held packages" and "Unable to correct dependencies") the wifi will be detected and usable.

Hope this tidbit helps - joe

Hi All,

I'm going to have to start a new thread for the other issues, since wifi and external monitors haven't really got anything to do with broken/held Packages.

@goumba: Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately I read your reply after I'd already done what I'd planned to do, anyway. Still I now know what is meant by "held" packages (held back because I've got a broken dependency chain) and what the difference is between "upgrade" (get new versions of what I've got) and "dist-upgrade" (get new versions and also additional packages to satisfy dependencies).

@joe-1: Here's a page which shows how to upgrade the kernel. I did this and am now runnin wheezy with a 3.14 kernel. Incidentally, ubuntu 12.04 using a 3.12 kernel did recognise the AC7260 wifi adapter and I used it successfully. I would imagine it should be possible to do the same with a 3.14 kernel.

Glad you got it working achim_59, I'd just reinstall LibreOffice if I were you, it is in the Debian repositories, just like OpenOffice is, but it is also the natively installed Office Suite in Debian.

MATE doesn't have LibreOffice but there is no problem installing it with MATE.

Thanks again to all who helped. For anybody reading this and looking to get a handle on a similar wifi problem to the one I mentioned above, I've started a new thread on that here.

Thanks k3lt01 I wasn't sure that's why I made the statement "Mate desktop may have libre office"

BTW what office does Mate have?

There is no Office application with MATE. Unlike Gnome and KDE MATE is just a Desktop Environment and the user gets to choose what they want to use with regards to Office, Music, Video, Web applications.
It does have a Text Editor called Pluma (MATE version of Gedit) though.
