If you have used linux at all then installing Debian really should not be hard. However if you want to get a feel for Debian then here are some suggestions:

Mepis (I've heard good things about this one)
Ubuntu (Gnome desktop)
Kubuntu (KDE desktop)
etc...
I'm sure there will be other suggestions, but IMO the best Debian system is Debian itself.

Try running Knoppix before you actually install debian to your hard drive.

I started using Debian 3.1 Sarge a couple of weeks ago and I'm having a bang-up jammin' time enjoying it. Running a Live-CD is fine, but to git the full effects of a new system is to install the full system. I have a triple-boot system with WinXP,Slackware-current and now Debian 3.1-Sarge_stable and having a blast. Especially with Debian.
Debian is soooo much faster than either of the other two system, you wouldn't believe.........
Go for the for the glory and install the complete system and enjoy!!!!

That's not all I got to say about that............

The latest Debian 3.1 is quite easy to install
if you can install Ubuntu 5 you can install Deb 3.1
you will need to know what your video card chipset is though
just take your time during the install

Hi,
Go to http://www.us.debian.org/
Read the documentation and also the thread here in the debian forum : debian post-install
This may be the trickyest part : to configure your sytem after install.
cheers

Pictures ? Well, I am afraid you won't get any pictures to install Debian.
But if you can follow instructions, in your own language, because Debian
does let you choose among many languages at install, you'll be fine.

yeah installing debian is far from a nightmare... you said you had done a ubuntu install before. Ubuntu install is very similar to debian.
