Debian Etch won't recognize Canoscan N650U...

Hello,

Debian Etch won't recognize Canoscan N650U. I've tried just about everything, but to no avail. I can boot up to my Ubuntu and Kubuntu "live CD's" and the scanner is recognized. But no matter what I try with Debian, I can't get the damn scanner to be recognized. Please help. Any help/advice would be highly appreciated.

I've gotten my Debian to recognize the device (i have the same scanner) but I failed at getting it to work. [i]lsusb[i] showed my device after I plugged it in.

I read online that you need sane-pletesk (or some crap like that) which isnt in the repositories. I tried to compile it myself, but it had me going in circles for hours... I eventually gave up, installed VMWare anf fired up Windows 98 in a new virtual machine and then downloaded the windows drivers and scanned my images perfectly.

I hate admitting that I had to get Windows just to scan some pictures, but sadly its true

I'll have to try lsusb. I've installed so many sane related progs that just maybe I have the right combination for it to work.

The way I look at it, whatever works. Like I mentioned in my original post, I have to use Ubuntu and/or Kubuntu "live CD's" to run my scanner. I think Puppy Linux also recognizes my scanner, but I can't remember.

I'd like to talk with someone who uses Debian Etch, or even Sarge, and that successfully uses the same scanner that we have. Maybe we can find the problem(s).

Thanks,
PlainDave
