They don't really have "such problems". There are lots of packages that have to be upgraded to the new C++ ABI and that's takeing time.
I am using unstable right now and I have k3b installed. (0.12.8-1)

But I had to go up from 'freeze' to get my 'multifunction' scanner/printer
working.
Don't know what happened to k3b. i even had to compile my localization file for KDE.
And I was hoping they now had a fix for my TV channel setup..

i wish you guys that are complaining would take a deep breath and take a look in your sources list. If you see "testing" or "unstable" then sit down and think. What does testing mean? what does unstable mean? If you are going to use it, then dont complain about stuff being broken. As someone else has pointed out, debian is going through an abi transition. It will get sorted, just takes time when you have one package that 200 other packages depend on, then you need to get them all in a working state before you release any, other wise you get these dependancy problems. Give it a week or two and it will probably get sorted. The reason for testing and unstable is so that the people who use it can report any problems which will help the devs get packages sorted out. So, file those bugs or write a patch or get actively involved. Dont just whine because packages in a testing release are broken.

What do I care if a few apps are missing? For some reason I had to compile k3b,kde-i18n, synaptic but as long as it works..
Now I'll see if the latest kernel can get VPN going and if tvtime can make sense of my cable TV setup.

What is Stable if not this?

It was just a reaction to finding my system so broken after a careful installation - and Stable is no option for me. But now it's ok, rather this than mandriva or suse any day.

apt-get install apt-listbugs
when you apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, sit on your hands for a couple of seconds and read the message that says "The following programs will be REMOVED" If you don't want them removed cancel the process and wait.
Don't complain about debian when you are running unstable. Unstable is a work in progress. Unstable has been more, well, unstable since Sarge went stable, but that's the nature of it. Good luck with Ubuntu.
