Debian - can't view jpeg images

Hello,
somehow I got libjpeg out of my system, and can't get it back working. I have installed jpeg-8b package, applications installed by it work, but not "system-wide" support for jpeg. Eg. I can use "cjpeg", but Eye of Gnome (image viewer) gives me "Unrecognized image file format" error.

Could you please point me to some right solution? Where does Debian look for this library?

Thanks

I think libjpeg8 (at the time of writing this post) is what you need.
Also, try some other image viewer like feh to check if it's a library or an application problem.

Thanks for your reply,
I installed libjpeg8, and with your's mentioned feh it works, but not for Gnome. Also, I can't have any jpeg background, so the problem is definitely paired with Gnome.

I have already reinstalled it, (actually, to different distribution) and faced same problem again. After some time, I figured solution to my problem - gtk needs to be compiled with jpeg support. Just wanted to share in case someone will face similar problem.
