Debian boot disks not booting

I've downloaded the network install CD image for ia64 of Debian 3.1, twice, but they don't boot. I just finished getting the install DVD and I've the same issue, it won't boot.

I've had no problem booting other distros and various utility CD's so I can't see why the Debian install CD/DVD's aren't working.

Is there anything special about the Debian discs?

There is nothing special needed to boot the Debian CD's. I suspect it is another issue which hopefully turns up.

Well, you may call ME the idiot, but it seems as if some idiot genius at Debian thought it was a really clever idea to name the Itanium-images IA64 (which I assumed was short for Intel Arch 64, since there is a amd64)
as I found out in another thread http://www.debianhelp.org/node/1639.

Thought I'd mention it in case you have the same "problem" as I did.

Um… IA-64 is the (older) name for the Itanium Architecture. That’s what Intel themselves called it (succeeding HP’s name: EPIC), so it would be fitting if OS vendors followed suit. Btw, IA-64 does stand for “Intel Architecture, 64-bit” (this is different from, AMD64/EM64T which is backwards-compatible with and an extension to x86).

Well, until I made the connection with the Itanium processors it confused the hell out of me..my only beef is why they named it amd64 instead of x64 or something of a more general nature. Anyway, I just thought it would help some other sucker like me who downloaded the iso without reading the description a little more carefully.

I, for one, am grateful for the late reply. I also thought that the IA64 links were for Intel. I don't have an AMD processor, so why would I need an AMD link?

Heh, the i386 and ia64 links are right next to each other...amd64 is all the way on the left hand side since it is alphabetical. Well, thanks for saving me the headache of wondering why my CD wouldn't boot at all.
