Debian book suggestion

Hello.

I tried debian a few days ago and i liked it.
I have read some thousand posts about debian and learned alot, but i would like to get a book
also to have handy.

I use slackware since 3.X version (3.4 i think) so i consider myself intermediate-advanced.

I have googled for books and also visited debian.org/doc

I have found two books that are considered very good.

1) Debian 3.1 Bible
eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0764576445,descCd-tableOfContents.html

2) The Debian System
debianbook.info

The links i provide have the table of contents for both books.
I am sorry for the url posting. I know i must have 5 posts but it isn't spam and i mention them
so you can read the table of contents

A friend of mine has the "Debian bible" which is a bit old but is considered very good.
I read it and didn't find it good. It doesn't have many practical things and the ones it has, you
can easily read them in some 3-4page howto.

When i read the table of contents of the two books i mention i don't get excited. The debian
3.1 bible gives me the impression that it is a rewrite of the old book.

What is your opinion ?
Do you have any book to recommend to me ?

Thank you.

I did not read it. I don't know what it's worth. O'Reilly books are very good as a rule, though.

cheers

I have just seen that "this product is no longer in print". Don't let it deter you. Visit E-bay or even Amazon, sometimes they have second-hand books that are worth buying and are much cheaper.

I have found this one, too. Not read it either. I have read French books on Debian (we have quite a collection.. )

Pretty much anything you need to know about Debian is available at Debian -- Documentation most of which you can install on your system and browse at your leisure.

Another online resource is Debian GNU/Linux Desktop Survival Guide unfortunately the "small" fee the author wants for a pdf version is $30. Not what I would consider a small fee.

Learning Debian GNU/Linux
is also available to read online.

Here is a good site with quite a few Linux books online Free Linux Books .

Why pay money when most of the resources you will ever need are available online.

Not quite Debian, but Knoppix is based on Debian and there is a lot of good info here
Knowing Knoppix

Plus there is documentation for most programs in /usr/share/doc at least that's where it is on my system.

Amazon has quite quite a few books on Debian. "Results for: Debian Linux"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ex...Mozilla-search

Debian is great..

Thank you both for replying.

"Learning Debian" is a bit old like my "Debian Bible"
Every book i read is for beginners that start with linux, so i get bored because i don't have anything to learn.

I guess debian.org/doc is invaluable. I heave learned a lot from it and from the forums.

Thank you again.

Lightbulb

Like someone mentioned already, the docs at Debian.org are the first stop reading for anyone looking for information on Debian. I'm currently waiting for Wiley to release Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 Bible in July. It probably will contain some/alot of information from the older version of the book, but most new editions of books do! But the previous edition was released a while ago if I recall so this new one should have alot of new information. But nothing beats the Debian docs, their mailing-list, & this forum.
