hi
i have Debian lenny at home on my laptop working fine
i want to connect to my machine from work
my machine has some programs that i want to excecute an control
i am thinking to make it a server so i need some help to how to configure it ?
How do you want to connect, and what do you want to do?
ssh,vnc....
Does the firewall from your company allows these protocols outgoing?
Does your provider allows these protocols incoming ?
i think yes and i will check that too
first I hope if i could have command line control (I open a link on the net and fount the > on it for entering my comman)
second a normal webpage on it i put some info about me
third place to download my programs
i know that is a lot
sorry for that
what I want is to add a folder on my pc that all users on the network could see it and get files from it
but not write in it
so forget about the site
and give me step by step sequence
I followed this link : http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/samba.htm
and it works fine "very strange"
but if i want this folder to be shared to all network users not linux users only
how can i do so?
<snip> you need to forward the ports to the server, and open the ports on the firewall of the server
And just be aware that once you open a port to the outside world someone will find it - and your computer. If you are prepared for the security issues, well and good. If not, make sure you have backups before you open this port, and then start learning about linux netserver security.
