debian and environment variables

I've been using Debian for about a week now and I just don't get this.. How do you set environmental variables so that they stick? Right now everytime I open a new tab in Konsole i have to manually enter

Ok. Isn't very difficult, but it's annoying. So, does anyone know which into which magic file do i have to enter my variables so that they'd stick? On thing though, if I open a new session with ctrl+alt+"some number" then the variables are correct. But i need them in Konsole too.

For non-login shells (such as Konsole) you should use .bashrc in your home directory.

Thank you. That took care of it. For some reason i had added all the stuff into .bash_profile. Read from someplace that this was where i needed to put my definitions.
