Debian 64 Question
 

If I install Debian (Etch) AMD64 arch, it will package Gnome and all the goodies like Firefox. Is there a solution to getting Macromedia Flash working or must I remove the pre-packaged Firefox 64 arch and somehow install a 32 bit version of Firefox...

I visit many sites that require Flash so please no "Flash Sucks" replies...

Wow - that is pretty annoying to say the least. Looks like I am sticking with i386 arch until things streamline a bit.

Gnash is becoming a viable alternative. It "supports" up to flash 7 which is as far as adobe has done anyways.

So what is the process when you install Debian 64 on your machine? I am sure most or all select the default "Desktop Environment" which loads Gnome and X all in one for you. Do many people just remove the Firefox install Gnome installed for you and install the 32 bit version? I can't imagine all the Debian 64 people are living without Flash or simply using "Gnash".

Mark me down as one who lives without it. I do have a couple 32-bit Debian systems I could log into if I really needed to see a Flash application. I tried installing Gnash and the build failed, but I didn't try very hard. The libflash setup is also available for Debian64. That one installed OK, but it locked up my system.

In spite of that, the AMD64 is still my primary use system. Things that DO work, work better and/or faster than the 32-bit ones. Java works fine using Konqueror, if I NEED to see an internet Java app ... and the "experimental" OpenOffice for the AMD64 works fine for me.

I use the 32 bit one via chroot or using the debian ia32 libs plus a few extra depending on how lazy I was on which install.
