Debian 6 Desktop wont load - xfce

Ok, I installed debian 6 with the xfce desktop on my old computer.
Once it loads up and I log in, the background stays gray and the icons dont load. I cant right click on the background or anything, everything else loads and I can run apps fine.

So whats happening, and how can I fix it?

On xfce, the app that handles the desktop and its... contents is xfdesktop (package xfdesktop4), so please check that you have it installed and it is runnning. Also try to start it by alt+f2 > xfdesktop.

If it is not running, you can have it spawn on each xfce session by starting it from the session startup.

The first time it restarted after the installation, it loaded. It took about a minute though. I'll try what you suggested, but from what I've read, I'm probably going to install Debain 5 because of my cpu.

If needing a i486 kernel and debian testing for your HP.

There are a few choices below. The 496mb iso is the full iso with a AntiX Control Center and Icewm and Fluxbox Desktops and Synaptic Package Manger Gparted, a bunch more stuff.

The 270mb Iso is without a AntiX control Center and just comes with fluxbox Desktop and apt-get. Kinda a build your own. Smxi and sfgxi come with both downloads as well as lshw and other good command tools.

My old Laptop is close in specs to your HP Desktop

Ok, it the desktop loads when I run it manually. When I go to system and startup to add an application autostart, I dont know the command option.

I am brand new to linux, as it is my first install and first time using linux. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Also, my clock is messed up. In the BIOS its correct, but not in Debian. Its 8:48, but the clock in Debian says 3:48.
