Hey everybody,


I'm currently having a problem with a Debian 6 server. The server has a subdomain given from the hosting company. On the machine we'll be hosting a domain with a different name from the hosting's.
The domain is pointing to the server's IP address but if you try to ping it will not return any replies. If you ping the machine's subdomain it returns ping.
At first I though it's a firewall blocking the ICMP but that's not the case. I've installed apache and tried to open the domain from a browser - the result:

1. The subdomain and the IP address works perfect
2. The desired domain doesn't open.


I'm coming from Slackware and most probably I'm missing something. It may be something really little that I'm missing. What may be the problem? Is it coming from debian or there's a firewall blocking the domain?

Did you allow for sufficient time for the new DNS entries to migrate thought the system? Otherwise, check if the permissions are correct. Next, flush any/all iptables rules and see if that has an effect...

It appeared the person who was responsible for directing the domain did a mistake when directing it for the first time.
Shortly after he corrected it but some of the DNS servers were having the old records.
The problem was resolved
