debian 6.0.1: iceweasel replaces tooltip with blank area when scrolling

Hello all,

I have a problem with iceweasel 3.5.16. When I hover over a link and a tooltip is displayed then this tooltip is replaced with a blank area when I scroll with the mousewheel. I only have this problem with iceweasel. I did not encounter it with epiphany. Is there a setting that needs to be tweaked?

Try upgrading iceweasel to version 4.0.1 from the mozilla repo, this will pull in a newer libcairo and xulrunner. If that doesn't do it, then iceweasel is probably not the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. But since I am using a stable debian I do not want to tinker with packages that are not in the official repos.
If this is not an iceweasel issue then why is there no such problem with epiphany?

The mozilla.debian.net packages are from the same (official) iceweasel debian maintainer. If it doesn't work, you can purge everything they install and go back to the version in stable.

If you really don't want to install it, then maybe try downloading firefox from mozilla, extract it to your desktop and just run it there to check for the same problem. If you still have the same problem with firefox, then it's not iceweasel. If the problem vanishes, you still might want to try installing iceweasel 4.0.1 as I suggested, to see if that clears it up.

Despite the obvious shared libcairo2 and libgtk2 dependencies, Iceweasel and Epiphany have different html rendering engines, one is xulrunner/gecko based, the other is webkit based.

Are you running a compositing window manager? Have you tried testing with a different DE/WM to see if you can reproduce the glitch there?

Have been running iceweasel with XFCE for a few days now and not encountered this issue. When running it under gnome the it still happens. So it is indeed not really iseweasel's fault here.
Thanks for the hint.
