Has anyone used the new debian installer? Is it any more newbie friendly?

as opposed to woody? yes it's more user friendly. I prefer it, but that's because I started w/ it. The only thing I don't like is the partitioning tool. I prefer cfdisk. Oh well :/

Yes, it's much more newbie friendly. About 6 months ago I tried to install Debain Woody before I knew to much about Linux, and it was like hell to me. If I had used Sarge at the time, it would've worked just fine and I would've had virtually no problem.

Thumbs up

Typically, I downloaded woody the otherday knowing nothing about sarge, and woody was horrible to install, didn't have the drivers for my SiS graphics card and generally didn't work. Sarge mostly worked (Had problems with internet when I was configuring Apt) and I wasn't best impressed by the partioning tool, I prefered the partioning tools on slackware (but can't stand the distro, never works for me ). So yes, the sarge installer is far more user friendly.

Thanks everybody for the input. I think i am going to give debian a try. I do have a few questions though.

I know that Debain usualy has three versions, stable, testing and unstable. Dost that mean that there are now three versions of woody, and three versions of sarge?

I have heard that many home users prefered using the woody unstable version, since it was more up to date and still pretty stable when compared to othr distros. Would this also be the case for sarge?

no. Woody was stable, sarge was testing and Sid was and always will be unstable. Now sarge is stable, i believe testing is called etch.
